Summary: Princess Meredith NicEssus fled from the Faerie high court three years ago, living as Merry Gentry, detective at the Grey Detective Agency, and hiding from her aunt. Even her true name whispered on the winds in the cover of dark would spoil the secret, so Merry lives in constant vigilance. Until one night, she’s found. Now, she has to return to the high court and handle courtly intrigue and politics at the hands of her (somewhat crazy, definitely murderous) aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. Merry just wants to go back to her day job at the detective agency, but first she has to survive multiple murder attempts.

Review: I first started reading Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, but this is a completely different world. I didn’t enjoy the story as much as I did in Anita Blake and Merry is a lot like Anita, but I enjoyed the magic and the men in the story. At times, I felt like it was trying too hard to be too many things at once: romance, mystery, and fantasy. I also felt like there was a lot going on all at once and it was hard to keep track of who was what and if we were friends with them or not.
