Summary: Prepare yourself for an adventure involving four Londons, two Travelers, one (to be) Pirate, and seemingly-sentient magic.
Kell, Traveler from Red London, is able to travel through the dimensions to visit Red, White, and Grey London (Black London has been cut off and abandoned). Although it’s illegal, he smuggles little artifacts for collectors, but one day, he smuggles completely the wrong thing. Now he’s being hunted and, to make matters worse, thief (and future pirate) Delilah Bard has decided she’s going to… help him.

Review: What an adventure! I love the idea of the magic being somewhat sentient, even if it is just Kell’s perception of it. I can’t wait to read the second, but as with Six of Crows, I’m going to wait until I can get my hands on a physical copy of both so I can re-read them. Also, those covers! Amazing! I love all of the characters in this, even if sometimes I think Kell is being STUPID, but that’s just his Fatal Flaw, I guess. I even love to hate the villain(s). Usually, alternate universes exist in science fiction because they’re linked to the idea of time travel (see: HG Wells’s explanation of Time Travel in the The Time Machine).

Recommendation: I recommend this book to people who love science fiction AND fantasy, as it’s a nice blend of both! And if you enjoyed Uprooted or Six of Crows.
